There is no meal that is all-American and fun than a classic hamburger. Fast food joints are known for their processed variety, but making the same at home is not only a healthy option, but is tastier and juicier and all the lovely things you expect to get between two buns! (Ok, that was a little dirty!) Now on to the recipe…
Ingredients
- 1/2 pound Ground Beef
- 1/2 Egg
- 1/8 cup Breadcrumbs
- 1/16 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon Seasoned Salt
- 1/4 teaspoon Onion Powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Garlic Powder
- 1/2 teaspoon Worcestershire Sauce
- 1/2 tablespoon Vegetable Oil
- 1/2 cup Onions, thinly sliced
- 1 tablespoon Flour
- 1/2 cup Beef Broth
- 1/2 tablespoon Cooking Sherry
Directions
- In a large bowl, mix together the ground beef, egg, bread crumbs, pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder and Worcestershire sauce. Form into balls and flatten into patties.
- Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry the patties and onions until browned, usually around 4-5 minutes per side. Remove the patties and cover in foil to keep warm and allow juices to be re-absorbed into the meat.
- Sprinkle flour over the onions and stir to allow everything to mix together, including drippings and pieces of meat that were left stuck to the bottom of the pan.
- Slowly add the sherry and beef broth and allow to simmer, adding seasoned salt to taste. Keep this gravy on medium-low heat for around 5 minutes, until it thickens.
- After 5 minutes, lower the heat, add patties to the gravy, cover the skillet and keep it this way for another 15 minutes.
- Serve hot with some buttered buns!
